Warwick Davis says Disney+’s removal of the Willow series is “embarrassing”

Willow actor and silver screen legend Warwick Davis is not holding back about Disney’s removal of the Willow series. Davis recently took to social media to break his silence about the House of Mouse pulling its Willow series from the streaming platform as part of a broader cost-cutting initiative under Disney CEO Bob Iger.

“I meet lovely people on a daily basis who are fans of #Willow, who are the reason the @DisneyPlus series was made,” Davis wrote on X (formally known as Twitter). “Please tell me @WaltDisneyCo, what do I say to these subscribers when they ask why they can’t watch the series any more? #embarrassing”

Interestingly, or adding insult to injury, Disney says the Willow IP remains an important part of the Lucasfilm library, and the studio could revisit it.

Here’s the official synopsis for Disney’s Willow series:

An epic period fantasy series with a modern sensibility set in an enchanted land of breathtaking beauty, “Willow” features a diverse international cast with Jonathan Kasdan, Ron Howard, Wendy Mericle, Kathleen Kennedy, and Michelle Rejwan serving as executive producers. The story begins with an aspiring magician from a Nelwyn village and an infant girl destined to unite the realms, who together helped destroy an evil queen and banish the forces of darkness. Now, in a magical world where brownies, sorcerers, trolls, and other mystical creatures flourish, the adventure continues as an unlikely group of heroes set off on a dangerous quest to places far beyond their home, where they must face their inner demons and come together to save their world.

Warwick Davis reprises the role of Willow Ufgood and is joined in the cast by Ruby Cruz, Ellie Bamber, Erin Kellyman, Amer Chadha-Patel, Talisa Garcia, Dempsey Bryk, Tony Revolori, Joanne Whalley, Daniel Naprous, Joonas Suotamo, Vitas Le Bas, Ralph Ineson, Talisa Garcia, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers, Kevin Pollak, Hannah Waddingham, and Caoimhe Farren.

While Disney says it could return to Willow in the future, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where Davis agrees to be a part of the mix, and what’s Willow without Willow Ufgood? Disney and Davis could mend fences, but only time will tell. What do you think about the Willow series getting pulled from Disney+? Let us know in the comments section below.
