It may have taken a few decades longer than expected, but Willow is finally ready for a new adventure. The release of the Willow TV series is just two short weeks away, and Disney+ has released the first clip from the upcoming fantasy show.
The Willow clip finds a new group of adventurers looking to Willow (Warwick Davis) for help. The group is led by Kit (Ruby Cruz), a princess and daughter of Sorsha (Joanne Whalley), who is on a quest to rescue her twin brother. The series will find the unlikely group of heroes travelling to places far beyond their homes, where they must face their inner demons and come together to save their world. In addition to Warwick Davis, Ruby Cruz, and Joanne Whalley, Willow also stars Ellie Bamber, Erin Kellyman, Tony Revolori, Amar Chadha-Patel, and Dempsey Bryk.
The original movie was released nearly thirty-five years ago and starred Warwick Davis as a young farmer who stumbled across Elora Danan, an infant who was prophesied to bring about the downfall of the evil Queen Bavmorda. Teaming up with the mercenary swordsman Madmartigan (Val Kilmer), Willow attempted to keep Elora from the clutches of Bavmorda’s legions. Willow showrunner Jon Kasdan has explained that the unanswered question of what happened to Elora Danan was the big motivator to create the TV series. “There are a million unanswered questions from the movie, but for me there’s only one, and it’s the reason we did this show at all: what happened to that baby?” Kasdan said. “I think, more than anything George Lucas has done, Willow was the one that said ‘sequel’ to me.” Willow remains one of my favourite fantasy movies, and I can’t wait to be thrust back into that world.
Willow will debut on Disney+ on November 30th
