In this year’s MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT we got to see Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) dive from an airplane in one of the craziest movie stunts ever, proving there’s no limit to how far he’ll go to save the world. That being said, I’m sure if his mission required him to be turned into a pigeon – much like Will Smith’s character in the new animated movie SPIES IN DISGUISE – he would probably just peace out and watch the world burn from on top of a mountain. Sadly, Smith’s Lance Sterling has no choice, and in the first trailer for the animated movie from 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios (FERDINAND, ICE AGE) he must accept the fact he has to save the world in the form of what is essentially a flying piece of garbage.

Also featuring the voice of Tom Holland, the movie looks likes the usual brand of fluffy, funny, straight-forward animation from these studios. This is the first time Smith has been in a major animated movie since 2004's SHARK TALE, but the actor is getting plenty of sound booth time in. He will also be the voice of Genie in Disney's ALADDIN remake, which comes out a few months before SPIES. What I'm saying is he's spent so much time doing voice work recently don't be surprised if he drops a new album next year too.
Here’s the plot synopsis:
Super spy Lance Sterling (Will Smith) and scientist Walter Beckett (Tom Holland) are almost exact opposites. Lance is smooth, suave and debonair. Walter is… not. But what Walter lacks in social skills he makes up for in smarts and invention, creating the awesome gadgets Lance uses on his epic missions. But when events take an unexpected turn, Walter and Lance suddenly have to rely on each other in a whole new way. And if this odd couple can’t learn to work as a team, the whole world is in peril. SPIES IN DISGUISE is an animated comedy set in the high-octane globe-trotting world of international espionage.
The movie also stars Karen Gillan, Ben Mendelsohn, Rashida Jones, Masi Oka and DJ Khaled.
