Will Smith is set to take over Hugh Jackman's lead role in COLLATERAL BEAUTY, according to Deadline. Jackman left the project last month due to his WOLVERINE 3 commitments, and although Johnny Depp was apparently being eyed for the part, it'll be Smith who will star alongside Rooney Mara in the drama.
ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL's Alfonso Gomez-Rejon will be behind the camera for COLLATERAL BEAUTY, and he'll be directing from a script by SAN ANDREAS and 21 screenwriter Allan Loeb. PalmStar Media is fully financing the film (as well as co-producing with Likely Story, Overbrook Entertainment and Anonymous Content), and PalmStar and Likely Story reportedly paid $2.5 million for Loeb's script. Production is scheduled to begin this fall.
COLLATERAL BEAUTY will follow "a New York advertising executive who experiences a deep personal tragedy. His colleagues devise an unconventional means of breaking him out of his depression, which works, but not in a way that anyone imagined."
Will Smith can be seen next in CONCUSSION, Peter Landesman's sports drama about football-related brain trauma, on Christmas Day 2015, and he also has SUICIDE SQUAD hitting theaters on August 5, 2016.
