Despite negative critical reviews and mixed fan reception, SUICIDE SQUAD broke the bank with a $325 million domestic take ($745 million worldwide), achieving legit blockbuster status. So of course in this age of milking cows while they’re full (especially with comic book flicks) there will most likely be a sequel, as well as another, recently announced villain-team-up movie, GOTHAM CITY SIRENS. Though the latter will feature an all-female band of villains (including Margot Robbie returning as Harley Quinn), there’s one male member from SQUAD who wouldn’t mind getting in on the action.
Will Smith, who played Deadshot in SQUAD, sat down with MTV International to talk about his new movie, COLLATERAL BEAUTY. Naturally SIRENS was brought up, and Smith was asked if he would be up for some kind of cameo in the movie, and Smith responded with an answer sure to get SQUAD fans quite hot and bothered:
I’d definitely love to be in it. I love Margot Robbie, I would do, like, anything she wants to do.
SQUAD marked the second outing between Robbie and Smith, with the two also being in 2015’s FOCUS. Plus, Smith and SQUAD/SIRENS director David Ayer have also worked on other projects together, as the two are currently finishing up the sci-fi thriller, BRIGHT. Chemistry wouldn’t be the only reason for Warner Bros. to feature Smith in SIRENS, as there have been talks of a Deadshot solo movie, so a cameo would be great to increase the character’s brand awareness within the DCEU (see Batman's bit in SQUAD). Overall, though, there’s the more looming fact that all these characters exist in the same universe, therefore it would make total sense for the character to pop-up alongside the gals, if only for a brief stop-and-chat.
I’ll be the first to say I wasn’t a fan of SQUAD, but the movie’s shining spot for me was the cast. Robbie was a great Quinn and Smith seemed to be having lots of fun playing Deadshot, and frankly I’d like to see more of the two in future films. I mean, would I be out of line by saying I'd rather see him show up instead of Jared Leto's Joker? No, right?
SUICIDE SQUAD is currently out on Blu-ray now with an all-new extended cut.
