I'm looking forward to checking out director Ang Lee's GEMINI MAN, a sci-fi action flick starring Will Smith… and a second Will Smith that's in his twenties. Figuring out how to make a movie in which an actor could fight his younger self proved so complicated that GEMINI MAN was trapped in development hell for over twenty years, but as of October 11th it's going to be in theatres.
Written by Darren Lemke, David Benioff, and Billy Ray, GEMINI MAN tells the story of
an aging assassin who finds himself in a battle with the ultimate opponent: his clone, who is 25 years younger and at the peak of his abilities.
In anticipation of the film's release, a clip has arrived online to offer an extended preview of one of the big action scenes. Embedded below, the clip shows the younger Will Smith fighting the older Smith, using a motorcycle as a weapon. We know the younger guy is a souped-up clone, but I don't know how the older one manages to survive the abuse he receives here. I didn't realize being an assassin enhances your chances of surviving a speeding tire to the face.
Smith's co-stars include Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen, and Benedict Wong.
GEMINI MAN was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger.
