Get ready for some Will Smith action through the lens of David Leitch as Deadline has reported that Netflix has acquired Fast & Loose from STXfilms after a heated bidding war. The project was first announced earlier this year with "every major player" bidding on the film, but once again, Netflix has walked away triumphant.
Fast & Loose will find Will Smith starring as a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, he learns that he's been living two lives, one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent. David Leitch will direct Fast & Loose based on a script by Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber. Given the talent involved, Fast & Loose should prove to be another action winner for Netflix.
Both Will Smith and David Leitch have plenty of projects over the horizon. Smith is set to star alongside Kevin Hart in a remake of John Hughes' Planes, Trains & Automobiles alongside Kevin Hart, and will also lead Antoine Fuqua's Emancipation, an epic which depicts the harrowing escape of Peter, a runaway slave forced to outwit cold-blooded hunters and the unforgiving swamps of Louisiana on a tortuous journey North where he joined the Union Army. As for David Leitch, he's completed production on Bullet Train earlier this year. Based on the popular manga Maria Beetle by Kotaro Isaka, the action-thriller will follow several "assassins who find themselves on a fast-moving bullet train from Tokyo to Morioka with only a few stops in between. Strangely, they discover their missions are not unrelated to each other." Bullet Train features an all-star cast that includes Brad Pitt, Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Andrew Koji, Zazie Beetz, Michael Shannon, Logan Lerman, and more. It's set for an April 8, 2022 release.
