The trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s AFTER EARTH has hit, appropriately a day after the tease for the Tom Cruise vehicle OBLIVION landed. Both films occur many years after the Earth is all but a glimmer of its former self, although in this one it would appear as though the planet is in better shape than in the Cruise epic. At least here, the animals and plantlife have taken back what’s rightfully theirs.
To be honest, AFTER EARTH looks, shockingly, slightly more interesting than OBLIVION. Perhaps because I’m ultimately expecting more from OBLIVION? Weigh in below with your thoughts after peeping the preview.
AFTER EARTH stars Will Smith and his son Jaden stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher (Will) critically injured, Kitai (Jaden) must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.
Watch out for those killer baboons!
Also starring Zoe Kravitz, Sophie Okonedo and Isabelle Fuhrman, AFTER EARTH crashes into theaters on JUNE 7, 2013. Let us know what you think of the trailer in the comments section below.
