Updated: Will Ridley Scott’s Exodus clock in at over 3 hours?

For those keeping a close eye on Ridley Scott's next epic film, EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS, a rumored running time of 3 hours and 20 minutes has hit the web. Before anyone loses their shit, this was posted on the IMDb page and has not be confirmed by Scott, the studio or God. Scott is no stranger to lengthy films and it's worth noting the classic Charlton Heston flick THE TEN COMMANDMENTS clocks in at 3 hours and 40 minutes. So is there a shot that EXODUS could in fact be 200 minutes? Well, let's take a minute to think about it.

• THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 – 145 min
• TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION – 165 min
• BOYHOOD – 165 min
• GONE GIRL – 149 min
• INTERSTELLAR – 164 min

So will EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS rival this year as the longest theatrical film? Probably not. IMDb, much like Wikipedia, is susceptible to reader submissions. Futhermore, the exact 200 minute runtime that's sitting there is most likely just a placeholder. As extensive as Ridley Scott's films can be in terms of detail, characterization and length, I would imagine that the studio would put more pressure on him to release something under 3 hours.  That's especially taking into account another older testament film (NOAH) that performed only modestly at the box office. A shorter runtime means more screenings per day which equals more money, as far as the studios see it. To be honest, in regards to this film, that's okay by me. If Scott has a director's cut (a la KINGDOM OF HEAVEN), no doubt we'll see it in due time.

EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS will be released on December 12.
