UPDATE: Before I started this story, I left a message on director James Gunn’s facebook wall asking if there was any truth to this because I hate when people say “inside source”. Plus, Gunn is a completely honest guy who calls out bullshit when he sees/hears it. I guess a ton of people were asking the same because about 30 minutes ago, he posted this, “When fan sites have a slow news day, I guess they just make shit up. Honestly – almost all of the “news” about my upcoming projects has been utterly and completely false. And I really mean “all.” I love this man.
For those who aren’t too familiar with GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (and there will be many), what can you do in order to draw a few strays to see the film? Add Iron Man.
Rumor has it that Marvel wants Robert Downey Jr. to reprise his role as Iron Man for the film. It also depends on if RDJ signs a new contract with Marvel since his ends after IRON MAN 3. This all according to ComicBookMovie.com’s inside source. So for now we must proceed with caution.
Much of this stems from the new cover of the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY comic that was shown during NYC Comic Con. CBM continued with additional details:
In addition to the claim from our source, there has been some recent foreshadowing that it will indeed be Tony Stark’s Iron Man joining the Guardians of the Galaxy. The Avengers Assemble comic book was specifically launched to feature a team of Avengers, which would be familiar with new fans arising from the movie. In the Avengers Assemble #8 comic book, Tony Stark is invited to join the Guardians of the Galaxy in their outer space adventures.
Stark says, “I envy the hell out you guys. Uncharted worlds. Undiscovered sciences. Green ladies.” Starlord responds, “You should come with us. You really should.” Stark smiles and says, “I do owe myself a vacation.” The story ends with a “To be continued in Guardians of the Galaxy in February 2013.”
There’s also a Twitter account from Roger Wardell, a guy who seems to have a lot of inside Marvel news. Last month, he offered this up:
Inside News: Currently the word is that Iron Man 3 will feature a mid credits scene AND a post credits scene.

Not sure if the two are connected, but CBM seems to think they might be.
