Lana Wachowski is set to write and direct MATRIX 4 with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss returning as Neo and Trinity. Cool. Sounds good. But will THE LORD OF THE RINGS and CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER actor Hugo Weaving return as Agent Smith? Weaving says:
I'm not, no.
And there you have it, folks.
He then added:
The Matrix” is a very different story. It’s unfortunate but actually, I had this offer [for “The Visit”] and then the offer came from “The Matrix”, so I knew it was happening but I didn’t have dates. I thought [I] could do both and it took eight weeks to work out that the dates would work – I held off on accepting [a role in “The Visit” during that time]. I was in touch with [director] Lana Wachowski, but in the end, she decided that the dates weren’t going to work. So we’d sorted the dates and then she sort of changed her mind. They’re pushing on ahead without me.
Ten bucks says he'll show up. As a good guy/program this time.
Anyhow, on top of directing this fourth THE MATRIX movie, Lana Wachowski will also pen the sequel's screenplay along with Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell. It stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Neil Patrick Harris, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Toby Onwumere, and Eréndira Ibarra, with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. as young Morpheus(?) and Lambert Wilson as The Merovingian. Wachowski also produces along with Grant Hill. MATRIX 4 might begin filming in San Francisco next month. It's scheduled to reach theatres on May 21, 2021.
For those of you that may have forgotten, the original film was written and directed by The Wachowskis and starred Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Laurence Fishburne. You can snag the first three films on Blu-ray HERE, HERE, and HERE.
