Will Ferrell to headline the brilliantly titled The Legend of Cocaine Island

Will Ferrell, Netflix, The Legend of Cocaine Island

I would think that giving comedic actor Will Ferrell a pile of snow would be a most terrible idea, yet Netflix seems to think that a stash of powder is precisely what the doctor ordered.

It's been announced via Deadline that Will Ferrell is set to star in and produce a feature based on Netflix's documentary THE LEGEND OF COCAINE ISLAND. In the documentary, a small-business owner and family man comes across the legend of a buried stash of cocaine worth $2 million hidden in the Caribbean. Having been wiped out during the Great Recession, he hatches a plan to retrieve the buried loot, using the talents of a band of colorful misfits. But without prior drug-running experience, trouble ensues.

Penning the script will be Peter Steinfeld, while Ferrell is set to produce with Gloria Sanchez Productions' Jessica Elbaum, and David Permut. Meanwhile, Theo Love, who served as director for the original documentary, will executive produce with Bryan Storkel.

After appearing in Netflix's BETWEEN TWO FERNS: THE MOVIE with Zach Galifianakis, Ferrell wrapped his role as Pete for the Nate Faxon and Jim Rash drama DOWNHILL. In the aforementioned film, Ferrell stars opposite Julia Louis-Dreyfus in a film about a married couple who, after barely escaping an avalanche during a family ski vacation in the Alps, are thrown into disarray as they are forced to reevaluate their lives and how they feel about each other.

Ferrell also recently completed work on EUROVISION for Netflix, a feature that focuses on aspiring musicians Lars and Sigrit, who are given the opportunity to represent their country at the world's biggest song competition. Ferrell will play Lars Erickssong in the upcoming film. Rachel McAdams, Dan Stevens, Pierce Brosnan and Demi Lovato also star, among others.

Ferrell certainly has a full dance card these days, with many more projects lined up alongside the ones mentioned above. I hope you're ready for more off-the-wall antics from the SNL alum, because 2020 looks to be bringing a multitude of Ferrell-related projects to the forefront, and that's just the tip of a very large iceberg that lies ahead.
