Hey there Bat-fans, it's time once again to play my favorite game of 2017, "Will He or Won't He with Ben Affleck!" All you need to play is a shot glass, a splash of grain alcohol of your choosing, and for JUSTICE LEAGUE actor Ben Affleck to waffle harder than a truck stop waitress as to whether or not he'll still be involved with anything related to Batman in the coming years. You must be of-age to participate, and I highly recommend that you keep your local EMTs on speed dial, because we've been playing this game a lot, lately.
By now, you've no doubt heard the reports of Ben Affleck seemingly distancing himself from DC Entertainment's Dark Knight, a situation that piqued when directorial duties of THE BATMAN were turned over to WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES helmer Matt Reeves. As someone on the news side of Hollywood, mapping Affleck's pattern of involvement with THE BATMAN project has been an exhaustive process to say the least. Here's the rub though, Ben recently told the Daily Sabah that he could still be involved with Reeves' film, or another solo Batman film altogether. Go ahead, take a shot.
While speaking with the entertainment outlet, Affleck told the Daily Sabah, "I want to direct a Batman movie, and I never got a script that I was happy with, so they are starting over and writing another script. And right now, I think a lot of different possibilities I think for the way the DC Universe could go, and I will just follow my interests in pursuing that. And I know that I love working with this group of people, and it was a real joy for me to make this movie."
Interesting. It sounds as if the material was on-point, Affleck would be willing to climb aboard. That's actually an admirable scruple to have when in regard to crafting a Batman film. After all, the last thing you'd want to do is screw it up. The fandom would eat him alive with a fork and knife. The question now is this: Would he direct as well as star in the film? I suppose that only time will tell, though this whole situation reminds me of the immortal words of Ron Ulysses Swanson, "Never half-ass two things. Whole-ass one thing."
Thanks for playing "Will He or Won't He with Ben Affleck," and we'll catch you next time. I'm buying.
