Jenna Coleman, who may be best known for playing Clara on 40 episodes of Doctor Who, has signed on to star with Oliver Jackson-Cohen (The Invisible Man) in an Amazon series called Wilderness. This show is being described as a “twisted love story”, and it sounds like it may venture into some dark territory.
A Firebird Pictures production, Wilderness will be filming in the US, Canada, and the UK. Amazon Prime Video will be releasing the series sometime next year, in over 240 countries and territories.
Written and created by Marnie Dickens, Wilderness is based on a novel by B.E. Jones (pick up a copy HERE). The story centers on
British couple Liv (Coleman) and Will (Jackson-Cohen) who seem to have it all: a rock-solid marriage; a glamorous new life in New York thousands of miles from their provincial hometown; and still young enough to feel that their whole lives are ahead of them. Until Liv learns about Will’s affair. Heartbreak is swiftly followed by another emotion: fury. Revenge is her only option, and when Will proposes a trip around America’s epic National Parks to give their relationship a fresh start, Liv knows just how to get it… Wilderness is a twisted love story, where a dream holiday and a supposedly “happily-ever-after” quickly turns into a living nightmare.
So Yong Kim (Lovesong) will be directing and executive producing Wilderness. Dickens is also executive producing the series, as is Elizabeth Kilgarriff.
Coleman had this to say about the project:
I’m very much looking forward to getting on the road, into the wilderness and the depths beyond. Working alongside Oliver, we will be exploring the boundaries of a relationship that is tested in unimaginable ways and in the hands of the wonderful So Yong Kim, Marnie Dickens and Liz Kilgarriff at Firebird Pictures. I know this is going to make for an extraordinary trip.”
That part about this trip through the Wilderness turning into a “living nightmare” sounds promising to us here at Arrow in the Head, but we’ll have to wait and see just how much of a nightmare it’s going to be. While we wait, Coleman will be seen in Netflix’s Neil Gaiman-inspired series The Sandman, which is set to premiere on August 5th.
