Last month, we heard that Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (The Invisible Man) had signed on to star in an Amazon series that is called Wilderness and has been described as a “twisted love story”. Now Deadline reports that Coleman and Jackson-Cohen are being joined in the cast by Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars), Eric Balfour (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Claire Rushbrook (Sherwood), Marsha Stephanie Blake (Orange Is the New Black), Morgana Van Peebles (Superstition), Jonathan Keltz (Reign), Talia Balsam (Divorce), Crystal Balint (The Fall of the House of Usher), Natalie Sharp (The Flash), Geoff Gustafson (A Christmas Proposal), and Jake Foy (Designated Survivor).
The only details that have been revealed about the characters the new cast members will be playing are their names. They will be playing Cara, Garth, Caryl, Detective Rawlins, Ash, Detective Wiseman, Bonnie, Liana, Marissa, Zach, and Anton, respectively.
Written and created by Marnie Dickens, Wilderness is based on a novel by B.E. Jones (pick up a copy HERE). The story centers on
British couple Liv (Coleman) and Will (Jackson-Cohen) who seem to have it all: a rock-solid marriage; a glamorous new life in New York thousands of miles from their provincial hometown; and still young enough to feel that their whole lives are ahead of them. Until Liv learns about Will’s affair. Heartbreak is swiftly followed by another emotion: fury. Revenge is her only option, and when Will proposes a trip around America’s epic National Parks to give their relationship a fresh start, Liv knows just how to get it… Wilderness is a twisted love story, where a dream holiday and a supposedly “happily-ever-after” quickly turns into a living nightmare.
So Yong Kim (Lovesong) will be directing and executive producing Wilderness. Dickens is also executive producing the series, as is Elizabeth Kilgarriff.
A Firebird Pictures production, Wilderness will be filming in the US, Canada, and the UK. Amazon Prime Video will be releasing the series sometime next year, in over 240 countries and territories. Before we get there, Coleman will be seen in Netflix’s Neil Gaiman-inspired series The Sandman, which is set to premiere on August 5th.
Wilderness sounds interesting to me. I look forward to checking it out next year. Will you be watching this show? What do you think of the cast? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
