Wil Wheaton to host The Ready Room, a Star Trek: Picard after show

After shows have become quite the trendy format in the last decade or so. Chris Hardwick's Talking Dead struck a massive chord with viewers. This led to after shows for Breaking Bad (Talking Bad) and Better Call Saul (Talking Saul). HBO even jumped on the bandwagon as well with their popular if unimaginatively titled Game of Thrones after show After the Thrones. Hell MTV's Teen Wolf even got one called Wolf Watch! These shows however scratched a particular public itch. We all want to discuss the intricacies, the surprises, and disappointments of our favorite shows. Moreover, in this day and age we want to do it immediately so why not indulge the audience in an in depth after program? The fact that many of these after shows brought on high profile celebrities or even actors and actresses from the programs themselves was just icing on the cake.

Apparently the Star Trek franchise is no exception to the rule.

One week from today heralds the return of Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard when Star Trek: Picard debuts on CBS All Access. Several Star Trek vets are poisded to appear including Jonathan Frakes as William Riker, Marina Sirtis as Deana Troi, and Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine. One Star Trek: The Next Generation character that will not show up is Wesley Crusher, however his real-life counterpart Wil Wheaton will…at least sort of. The geek icon is set to host a Star Trek: Picard after show entitled The Ready Room. The news comes courtesy of the officiall Star Trek on CBS All Access Twitter homepage:

I have to say this is a perfect choice if you ask me. Wil Wheaton is not only a TNG vet but also well versed in Star Trek lore. In addition he has some experience hosting his own show with the short lived 2014 SyFY program The Wil Wheaton Project. Wheaton's signature brand of wit, snark, and insightfulness should dovetail nicely with CBS All Access' latest program.

Star Trek: Picard is set approximately twenty years after the events of STAR TREK: NEMESIS. Picard is still coming to terms with the death of android Data (Brent Spiner) and the destruction of the planet Romulus, depicted in the 2009 film. Due to the results of the latter, Picard has since left Star Fleet and retired to his vineyard. However, circumstances conspire to draw the erstwhile captain back into space.

Star Trek: Picard will consist of ten episodes and has already been renewed for a second season. The program warps onto your television screens January 23, 2020.
