Why do I love movies? Well, that is a loaded question. How much time do you have? I could go into a long-winded diatribe about the art of film-making or the magic of the movies, but all of that has been said countless times before. Not every movie is a masterpiece, but every film has touched me in one way or another. Every other week, we will look at a handful of reasons why movies are so damn great..

I love movies…because of Donald Sutherland finding the dwarf in DON’T LOOK NOW

Because of the way Calvin Candie says “sonsabitches!”

Because of Jodie Foster in CANDLESHOE

Because of the shock ending of SLEEPAWAY CAMP

Because of Gene Hackman versus Lance Henriksen in THE QUICK AND THE DEAD

Because of THE CRIPPLED MASTERS and the fact it even exists

Because of the children in VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED

Because of the opening monologue of DUNE

Because of the train sequence in THE LONE RANGER

Because of the cotton candy cocoons in KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE

Because of the trailer for THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO

Because of the whistle at the end of PRISONERS

Because of Peter O’Toole playing the same king in BECKET and THE LION IN WINTER

Because of the commercial in HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH

Because of the fake trailers in GRINDHOUSE

Because of Paul Newman eating hard boiled eggs in COOL HAND LUKE

Because of Roman Polanski‘s cameo in CHINATOWN

Because of Ewan McGregor singing Come What May in MOULIN ROUGE

Because of Heath Ledger and the pencil trick in THE DARK KNIGHT

Because of the Mila Kunis/Natalie Portman love scene in BLACK SWAN
