Josh Gad's Reunited Apart showcase on his YouTube page has been a true bright spot of quarantine. He has successfully reunited the casts of THE GOONIES, BACK TO THE FUTURE, SPLASH, and LORD OF THE RINGS and now he's reuniting what is arguably his biggest group yet: The cast and crew of the original GHOSTBUSTERS.
A GHOSTBUSTERS reunion was teased at the end of Gad's most recent Reunited Apart episode, which was set for June 8. The decision was made to delay the episode given the media focus on the worldwide protests this week in regards to police brutality so now the GHOSTBUSTERS episode will air Monday, June 15. Gad posted a preview of the episode that can be viewed below:
The preview features Gad speaking with Jason Reitman, son of original director Ivan Reitman. Father Reitman also makes an appearance in the preview as well as Annie Potts, who played Janine Melnitz in the film. Ivan Reitman will be following in his father's footsteps by directing the upcoming sequel, GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE. The film was originally planned to be released this summer but has been pushed to next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
You can see snippets of the other actors in the preview but it does confirm that Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver will be featured as well. Gad has been good about getting just about anyone but not making an appearance, at least in this preview, is Rick Moranis, who played Louis Tully in the film. Gad might have to work some magic to get him because he turned down cameo offers in Paul Feig's female reboot of GHOSTBUSTERS and the upcoming sequel.
The good thing about Reunited Apart, besides sweet nostalgia, is that funds raised from these reunions go towards charity and this episode will benefit the organization Equal Justice Initiative, which calls for an end to mass incarceration, excessive punishment, and racial inequality. Will YOU be checking out the reunion? You can check it on Josh Gad's official YouTube channel starting at 9:00 AM PT, 12 PM EST on Monday, June 15.
