Which character did Joss Whedon cut out of Avengers: Age of Ultron?

If you've seen AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON you know that the film is filled to the brim with heroes and villains both new and old, however there was one fan-favourite character who didn't make it to the final cut. Last winter Idris Elba informed us that both himself and Tom Hiddleston would have roles in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON; while Idris did put in an appearance, the god of mischief was nowhere to be found.

Joss Whedon spoke with MTV who they asked the writer/director what had happened with Hiddleston's cameo:

Tom is not in the movie… Idris misspoke… twice. We did shoot something and it didn’t play. The movie has so much, is so filled and we didn’t want it to feel overstuffed. I really wanted to have Loki in it but I understood the decision, ‘Now there are too many voices in the chorus.’ At some point the embarrassment of riches is actually embarrassing.

Given the wealth of characters we did get in the film, Loki's absence didn't bother me. It's possible the scene may wind up on the AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Blu-ray release, which is said to be an extended edition with an alternate ending, or re-purposed somehow for THOR: RAGNAROK.

Once you've seen AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON don't forget to head on over here and let us know what you thought of the film!
