Where the Scary Things Are trailer: horror film draws comparisons to Stand by Me and The Goonies

Writer/director B. Harrison Smith’s horror movie Where the Scary Things Are is set to receive a DVD and digital release on June 28th, and a trailer has arrived online to give a preview of what this one will have in store for us in just two months. Where the Scary Things Are caught my attention with the first line of its synopsis, which asks, “Ready for Stand by Me or The Goonies with a deliciously dark twist?”

In this film,

the horror begins as Ayla and her high school friends discover a hideous, semi-human mutant. They keep it prisoner while shooting repulsive viral videos, with the gang’s hunger for “likes” driving them to film the beast performing murderous acts. When one boy sees that Ayla is using the monster’s gruesome violence to settle her own vendettas, he threatens to tell the authorities – but is he too late to save his friends?

Where the Scary Things are stars Paul Cottman (The Special), Michael Cervantes (Amityville Uprising), Peter Cote (All I Want for Christmas), Quinn Andrew Fickes (All I Want for Christmas), Selina Flanscha (The Night Time World), Oliver Givens (High School Crimes & Misdemeanors), Emma Lim (High School Crimes & Misdemeanors), Asher Ruppert (yet another All I Want for Christmas / High School Crimes & Misdemeanors alum), and newcomer Riley Sullivan.

Smith produced the film with Phillip B. Goldfine, Doug Henderson, Matt Nease, Chad Oliver, and Tom Van Herwarde. James T. Bruce IV served as executive producer, with Curt Howe as co-executive producer. Smith previously directed Camp Dread, ZK: Elephant’s Graveyard, Garlic & Gunpowder, The Special, and yes, All I Want for Christmas and High School Crimes & Misdemeanors.
