Where in the Horror are They Now? Lisa Wilcox!

THEN: Call me crazy, but I have a bit of a soft spot for A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET PART 4: THE DREAM MASTER and even dare I say A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET PART 5: THE DREAM CHILD. Why you ask? Well, aside from a few cool dream sequences, I really developed a major crush on one of my favorite scream queens of all-time. I adore Lisa Wilcox for a number of reasons. She is crazy gorgeous and full of fire and strength and proved to be one of the best “final girls” in all of horror movie history in my humble opinion. What makes her so special? Well one thing is for sure, I had the pleasure of speaking with this lovely actress back in May of 2008 for a phone interview and she was utterly delightful. To this day it was one of the most pleasant conversations I’ve had while writing for AITH. I think I could have just continued that phone call for hours on end.

When I first saw THE DREAM MASTER in 1988 I was especially taken with her character “Alice.” The shy girl who finds strength with each soul that Freddy Krueger took was a nice touch. And add to that she was so freaking cute! Much of what attracted me to the film was the chemistry between Ms. Wilcox and the oh-so-cool Andras Jones who played her brother. The two actors gave this sequel a little heart and I found myself rooting for them… plus Brooke Bundy’s cockroach transformation was kind of amazing. Yet in the end, it was Wilcox that owned this flick with a great performance and that amazingly sexy voice of hers! F*ck it! I admit it! I kind of love this movie. I saw it three times in the theatre – including one time at the drive-in and it was awesome.

Okay, I get it. The 1989 sequel THE DREAM CHILD is a bit of a mess. Still, I was far more appreciative of this movie than most. I give credit to director Stephen Hopkins for attempting to give it a sort of gothic edge, even if at times Freddy’s antics began to lose some of the charm. This wacky little flick did have one thing that I completely grooved to and that was giving Alice the full-on leading lady role that she deserved. Again, I liked the chemistry she had with her and her co-star – this time the hunky Danny Hassel was featured more prominently and they made quite a match. Ms. Wilcox gives her all and makes this strange sequel work for me personally. If they ever somehow, someway make an another sequel to A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (trying to forget about the remake) I’d love to see the return of Alice. How about you guys?

Next up for the adorably awesome actress was the short lived television series based on the hit movie “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” in 1992 and I have absolutely zero memory of this. While doing a little background for this article I realized exactly why I have no memory… it wasn’t good. But she of course was ‘most excellent.’ Thankfully she kept working on the telly with appearances on several series such as “Star Trek: The Next Generation” (1989), “Bodies of Evidence” (1992) as well as the cult favorite “Boy Meets World” for three episodes. Once again she was gorgeous and delightful. As much as I love her in film, it would be nice to see this talent on a weekly basis as a series regular… can someone make this happen?

With a ton of television credits, I’m happy to say that she wasn’t finished with the horror genre yet… not even close. 1998 found her starring opposite Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill in the horror sequel WATCHERS REBORN. Directed by FRIDAY THE 13th alum John Carl Buechler, this flick failed to thrill fans of the original but my recollection of it was simply that I enjoyed seeing Lisa back to scary. She has a wonderful presence that tends to suit this genre and frankly, if her name is in the credits I’ll be watching.

NOW: When I spoke the actress back in 2008 she had just finished the TV-Movie “Unauthorized Brady Bunch: The Final Days” and she had started a jewelry business with fellow gothy NIGHTMARE vet Tuesday Knight. Less than a year after our conversation however, she was a regular in the FearNet series “Fear Clinic” in 2009 starring opposite a man by the name of Robert Englund! This time, both Alice and Freddy were on slightly better terms. This series of shorts was a whole lot of fun thanks to a plethora of horror icons that also included FRIDAY THE 13th’s Kane Hodder and HALLOWEEN’S Danielle Harris. That same year Wilcox also appeared in a couple of low budget flicks SAVAGE and THE INTRUDERS. She was back to work and in the genre we here at AITH hold so near and dear.

According to her IMDB page, this beautiful and talented actress is once again very busy on-camera. With three upcoming features including THE CHURCH which is in post-production as well as A PLACE CALLED HOLLYWOOD and CLINGER in pre-production it looks as though we’ll be seeing tons more of the actress. For the fans, she makes appearances at a number of conventions to meet and greet with y’all which would make any self-respecting genre lovers very happy.
