Tuesday is just around the corner which means that new Blu-rays are set to arrive at online retailers and department stores near you. Let's jump right into it, shall we? This week, Criterion is releasing their version of THE ELEPHANT MAN. Directed by David Lynch, the classic story centers around a Victorian surgeon who rescues a heavily disfigured man who is mistreated while scraping a living as a side-show freak. Behind his monstrous façade, there is revealed a person of kindness, intelligence, and sophistication. The film was both a critical and commercial success and had received eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Actor.
Beyond THE ELEPHANT MAN, director Steve Beck's 2002 horror film GHOST SHIP will be dropping anchor on shelves this week. Known for having one of the most intense opening scenes for any horror film, GHOST SHIP is an awfully good movie that shares the story of when a salvage crew discovers a long-lost 1962 passenger ship floating lifeless in a remote region of the Bering Sea, and soon notices that its long-dead inhabitants may still be on board. Pair this ridiculousness with a viewing of Beck's THIR13EN GHOSTS and you've got a double-feature worth dying for.
Also hitting Blu-ray this week is Arrow Video's version of Kevin Smith's MALLRATS, a JAWS 3-MOVIE COLLECTION (Jaws 2, Jaws 3, Jaws: The Revenge), the BLUMHOUSE OF HORRORS 10-MOVIE COLLECTION, Yoshiaki Kawajiri's salacious anime classic WICKED CITY, and much more!
