A new month brings a wealth of new Blu-ray and DVD releases, so now’s a great time to play catch-up and see what we have ahead of us in the month of October! You can always head to our BLU-RAY AND DVD RELEASE DATES section for a more complete list, but in this column we’ll go over some of the more popular titles hitting shelves over the next 4 weeks!
October 4
We kick off October with one spoopy character in Oscar Isaac‘s Apocalypse in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE! Arguably the X-Men movie that feels most like the show, this one divided audiences in theaters but will undoubtedly find its fan base on Blu-ray. If you’re looking for other horrific-themed stories, season 1 of Preacher and a special edition of IT hit shelves. Finally, if you’re Chris Bumbray, there’s also a spiffy new set of Miami Vice.
October 11
The controversy ends as GHOSTBUSTERS hits Blu-ray this week! Were you one of the few who enjoyed it in theaters? Perhaps you’re curious if the movie lives up to the love/hate. Either way, October 11th is your day to find out. If you’re willing to take a few more risks, we also have TARZAN hitting Blu, as well as ICE AGE 13 (or whatever number they’re up to). Otherwise, you can catch up with some classic horror with the likes of THE THING and CARRIE.
October 18
This week sees some really delicious treats via Criterion with not only a new edition of PAN’S LABYRINTH, but also a trilogy set that includes PAN’S, DEVIL’S BACKBONE and CRONOS. Just as terrifying is the long-awaited sequel, INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE. ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS rounds out some of the more popular titles, and is sure to deliver some of the chills many seek during the month of October! What? You mean that movie ISN’T supposed to be scary???
October 25
We cap off the month with LIGHT’S OUT, based on the short film you probably remember seeing online a while back featuring a gimmick that landed itself a feature-film adaptation. We also have Dave Franco with his PG-13 thriller NERVE. If that’s not intense enough, THE EXORCIST III finally arrives on Blu-ray and is definitely worth a look if you’ve never had the pleasure! Indie sleepers CAPTAIN FANTASTIC and HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE aim to deliver a few of the better films of 2016 that you probably haven’t had the chance to see in theaters. Otherwise, start your horror movie marathons and I’ll see you back here when we talk up What’s new on Blu in November!
