Finally! The work week is over and you’ll have some free time to relax, crack a cold one, pop that corn and nuke some ‘chos all in the noble pursuit of cinematic entertainment! Every Friday, we’d like to hear what everyone will be watching over the weekend, whether it be on TV, DVD and Blu-ray or in theaters.
So what’s on your movie agenda this weekend? Here’s what I’m thinking about watching…
IN THEATERS…
I know some of you more sleep deprived Schmoes are probably just coming out of your bat-commas; I bet the midnight showing was completely worth it. In fact, as you are reading this I’m probably halfway into my four and a half hour roadtrip up to Seattle to see THE DARK KNIGHT RISES in glorious IMAX just as the creator intended.

ON TELEVISION…
First up is AMC’s BREAKING BAD made its triumphant return last Sunday and if you need a refresher be sure to check out our new recap column for the show by our own J.A. Hamilton before the next episode airs and every Monday to follow. It looks like they’re cooking up something special for the final season and I can’t wait to see how one of the best series on TV right now concludes.
A few weeks in and I think it is safe to say that I’m hooked to THE NEWSROOM, between Jeff Daniel’s personal quest to civilize the world one bad date at a time and writer-creator Aaron Sorkin being completely in his element this HBO show is turning into something special.
ON DVD & BLU-RAY…
When I first heard that Will Ferrell intended to make a Spanish language comedy in the vein of a Mexican soap opera I thought it was an elaborate joke but CASA DE MI PADRE, out this week on disc, is a real movie and Ferrell seems to be just as hilarious in a different language. Say what you want about the man but Mel Gibson was in some classic action flicks and I’m happy to report GET THE GRINGO (which was released on video-on-demand earlier this year and on disc this week) is something of a return to form for Gibson and worth checking out. A couple months back I had the opportunity to see HIGH NOON on the big screen and it was an amazing experience which only makes me more excited that this week the classic Gary Cooper Western is coming to Blu-ray for the first time.
