Before he was tapped to helm THOR: RAGNAROK, Taika Waititi directed WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, a fun vampire mockumentary that was featured on many "Best Movies of 2014" lists. Last year, star and co-writer Jemaine Clement revealed that a spinoff is in the works that will follow Rhys Darby's Anton and his gang of "werewolves not swearwolves," and during a conversation with Crave Online, Waititi said, “It’s going to be called We’re Wolves, like ‘We are wolves.’ We’re Wolves.”
Waititi went on to say WE'RE WOLVES will “most likely be the next thing” he does after he finishes production on the Thor threequel, although he also wants to do a World War II comedy “about a kid in the Hitler Youth."
I still haven't gotten around to checking out WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS yet, but I've heard nothing but fantastic things about the horror comedy, and I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who are extremely happy that there's going to be a spinoff.
Taika Waititi's latest directorial effort, HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE, doesn't have a release date yet, but it recently premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival (you can read Chris Bumbray's review here), while THOR: RAGNAROK is scheduled to open on November 3, 2017.
