Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement's New Zealand-set horror-comedy vampire mockumentary WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS has franchise potential, and the universe created in that film is going to start meeting some of that potential in just a couple weeks, when the spin-off television series Wellington Paranormal will begin airing on New Zealand's TVNZ 2.
Set to consist of six 30 minute episodes, Wellington Paranormal will center on characters introduced in WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS,
police officers Mike Minogue and Karen O'Leary (played by Mike Minogue and Karen O'Leary), while they work in a paranormal activity division of the New Zealand Police Department.
Minogue and O'Leary are joined in the series by another returning WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS character, Cori Gonzalez-Macuer as the vampire Nick, while Clement will be playing a member of the film crew that's following the police officers around.
Wellington Paranormal is scheduled to premiere on July 11th, so that means it's time for some marketing – a trailer for the series has been released and can be seen below. This looks like a fun show, and it'll be nice for fans of WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS to get a chance to return to that world.
Other related projects in the works include WE'RE WOLVES, a mockumentary about the werewolves seen in WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, and an American TV show based on the movie.
