What We Do in the Shadows season 2 begins shooting

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

As we all know well and good by this point in time, Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi's horror-comedy mockumentary WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS has a TV spin-off aptly called What We Do in the Shadows. The spin-off was renewed for a second season back in May, and today we have word from Guillermo himself Harvey Guillen that filming has begun on season 2.

Harvey Guillén tweets:

First day of shooting season 2 of What We Do in the Shadows … Here we gooooooooo

Truth be told I still haven't had the chance to sit down and watch the first season yet. But hell, I just might get on that tonight! Sounds like a plan to me. The series doesn't follow the same characters as Clement and Waititi's WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS but is set in the same world.

It centers on

three vampires who live together: Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), and Nandor (Kayvan Novak) — the former two are husband and wife. Also living with them is a fourth vampire named Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), who’s an “energy vampire.” Instead of blood, he sucks the energy out of his victims by boring them to death with mundane anecdotes and bad jokes. The office is his feeding ground, but his powers also work on his vampire roomies.

Guillen co-stars as the vampires' "sweet but fumbling" familiar, along with Beanie Feldstein, Doug Jones, and Jake McDorman. What We Do in the Shadows is executive produced by Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement, Paul Simms, Scott Rudin, Eli Bush, and Garrett Basch. The first season's final episode "Ancestry" was directed by Taika Waititi and written by Jemaine Clement, Stefani Robinson, Tom Scharpling & Paul Simms.

The second season of What We Do in the Shadows will air on FX in 2020.
