new Zealand vampire comedy WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS is opening in less than a month in the UK, and the film's distributor has been kind enough to toss the opening six minutes online for our viewing pleasure. There are more than a few chuckles to be had here; really makes me wish the film were opening in time for Halloween in the states, but this will have to do for now.
Directed by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, the synopsis goes like this:
Follow the lives of Viago (Taika Waititi), Deacon (Jonathan Brugh), and Vladislav (Jemaine Clement) – three flatmates who are just trying to get by and overcome life's obstacles-like being immortal vampires who must feast on human blood. Hundreds of years old, the vampires are finding that beyond sunlight catastrophes, hitting the main artery, and not being able to get a sense of their wardrobe without a reflection-modern society has them struggling with the mundane like paying rent, keeping up with the chore wheel, trying to get into nightclubs, and overcoming flatmate conflicts.
WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS opens in the UK on November 21st; it doesn't have a release date in the U.S. yet, but The Orchard and Funny or Die acquired it back in September so hopefully they'll let us know when we can expect it soon.
