THIS WEEK'S PICKS

Wanna watch something….with Superheroes?

MARVEL'S IRON FIST (Premieres Friday, September 7th on Netflix) – You may not believe it, but this season of Marvel's Iron Fist is actually really good! Seriously! With Jessica Jones and Luke Cage doing things in a much more grounded way, the storytelling on Iron Fist picks up the badass hole left by the absent Daredevil. With a great story, great fight scenes, and a much less annoying Danny Rand, this new run of episodes may be one of the best comic book adaptations that Netflix has done so far. Check out our full review tomorrow.

Wanna watch something….Scary?

GHOUL (Premiered August 24th on Netflix)This three part Indian horror series is from Blumhouse, the producers of GET OUT and the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY series. That means it is scary and not for the faint of heart. The subtitled series follows an interrogator in a near future dystopia who must contend with an evil terrorist who may have powers that are supernatural. This series feels more like a long feature than a series but it is a slow burn that will draw you in. Better keep the lights on watching this one! Read our full review here.

Wanna watch something….Romantic?

THE INNOCENTS (Premiered August 24th on Netflix) – This new British series combines science fiction with a teen drama. While this is far from TWILIGHT as you can get, it does follow two star-crossed lovers escaping from overprotective parents. At the same time, they are being hunted by a mysterious group led by Guy Pearce who want to control their ability to shapeshift. This is a slow burn of a series but one that pays off if you like binging short seasons of well made television. Read our full review here.

Wanna watch something….if you loved Sons of Anarchy?

MAYANS M.C. (Premieres Tuesday, September 4th on FX)The great biker drama Sons of Anarchy went out in a blaze of glory, but creator Kurt Sutter has decided to continue the saga in a non-traditional manner. Following the Mayans gang, often seen on Sons of Anarchy, this family-centric series will surely never replace your love of Jax, Clay, Gemma, or any of those other characters. But, maybe it could pull a Better Call Saul and be a worthy successor to a fan favorite series.

Wanna watch something….F*cked up?

THE PURGE (Premieres Tuesday, September 4th on USA and SYFY) The successful horror film franchise comes to the small screen with an event series chronicling multiple characters trying to survive the annual Purge Night. While it is nowhere near as graphic or violent as the films, The Purge works as a character study that also happens to have a lot of death. Fans of the films may not be into the sanitized look of this small screen, but those unfamiliar with the movies may find themselves in for a treat. Check out our full review here.

Wanna watch something….Action Packed?

JACK RYAN (Premiered August 31st on Amazon Prime) – Debuting August 31st, you can binge all ten episodes of the first season. Already renewed for a second run, Jack Ryan stars John Krasinski as Tom Clancy's heroic analyst turned CIA operative. Updated for modern events, this original story has Jack tracking down a terrorist prepared to launch a devastating attack on Western soil. Well acted and full of great action sequences, this is the definitive version of the hero previously played by Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine. Wanna watch something….Really Good?

BETTER CALL SAUL (New Episodes air Mondays on AMC) – This season of the Breaking Bad spin-off has been better than any season thus far. With the tragic events at the end of last season, Bob Oedenkirk gets to play up the darkness building inside of Jimmy McGill and this week's episode is no exception. This week's episode keeps up the tension facing every character, including Jimmy, Kim, and Mike. Keep your eyes peeled for some references to that other series featuring Saul as a big one dropped a couple of weeks ago.

Wanna watch something….Absolutely Hilarious?

IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA (Premieres September 5th on FXX)The thirteen season of the long-running sitcom may be without Dennis (Glenn Howerton), but the rest of the gang are ready to do some crazy shit up in Paddy's Pub. You never know how insane things will get on this show, but the trailer features a blow-up doll version of Dennis as well as Dee getting grabbed in the crotch. Yeah, this series is like the love child of Seinfeld and South Park that you never new you needed. If you haven't watched the show, catch up on your favorite streaming service.
