What If…? features Chadwick Boseman’s final Black Panther performance

Fans of Chadwick Boseman and Black Panther will have a chance to experience the late actor once more as King T'Challa. Boseman will be heard as the voice of T'Challa in Marvel's What If…? series on Disney+

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige spoke with "Emmy Magazine" about the series and he confirmed that Boseman has recorded dialogue for the character which will give Black Panther fans one last performance in the role. Feige also revealed that Boseman will be featured in several episodes as opposed to just one brief appearance. Feige went on to say "There are all sorts of stories we couldn't explore through live-action. Chadwick came in about four times and recorded numerous episodes. In hindsight, it's very moving."

Boseman tragically lost his very private battle with cancer at the age of 43 this year. The actor, despite receiving his diagnosis before taking on the Black Panther role in Captain America: Civil War, persevered and continued to work steadily. In 2018, Boseman led the solo Black Panther movie and would appear as the character again in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The actor was planning g on return as T'Challa in Black Panther 2 but sadly that was not meant to be. It was announced during Disney Investor Day that Black Panther 2 would continue to proceed but Boseman's role will not be recast.

Boseman's final live-action role is the new drama Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, a role that has garnered him a lot of praise from critics. Some in the industry that he could receive a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Oscars and many of his fans are campaigning for a posthumous Oscar win for the actor. Considering the attention the performance is getting, this could be a strong possibility.

As for Marvel's What If…?, the series will being in other Major Marvel actors to lend their voices to the animated versions of their characters. The show will carry no storyline connections to the live-action MCU and will instead delve into how some storylines may have played out differently in an alternate timeline. Season one will consist of ten episodes and will begin streaming on Disney+ in mid-2021.
