Fox's X-Men saga has gone on for 12 movies and 19 years, ranging from awesome to loathesome (check out our ranking of the franchise HERE) and the final chapter under the Fox banner is here with DARK PHOENIX, the second film to retell the seminal X-Men story written by Chris Claremont and drawn by John Byrne in 1980, with the first being X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, which was coincidentally also written by DARK PHOENIX director, Simon Kinberg. Reception to THE LAST STAND was less than enthusiastic and now Kinberg has been granted a "do-over", taking on the writing/directing duties from mainstay Bryan Singer, closing the saga before all the characters transition over to the braintrust at Marvel Studios. After a kind of reinvention with Matthew Vaughn's X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, the new cast, led by James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence and Evan Peters, finds themselves once again facing the dreaded Dark Phoenix after it was put back in place during the events of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.
Thus far, critics seem to be severely disliking the movie with a 23% rotten score gracing Rotten Tomatoes. Our own Chris Bumbray liked it more than most, but isn't about to call it the best of the series, saying in his 7/10 Review, "Despite some hefty delays, X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX (the full-on screen title) isn’t bad as far as X-MEN movies go, being admirably character-based, even if it suffers by coming out in a post AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR/ ENDGAME world. The bar has been set so high that it’s hard for anyone to compete."

And with that, now it's your turn! We want to hear what YOU thought of the film! Naturally, we'd prefer you to comment only if you've seen the film as that's the point here, but do what feels good. Just don't get mad if you get trounced for trolling or posting blatant spoilers in headlines. Healthy debate, genuine thoughts, and respectful interactions is all we ask.
Is DARK PHOENIX a fitting close to Fox's X-Men franchise or is it yet another reason that it's better off in the MCU?
