What did you think of…The Predator?

It's been a long wait for a new PREDATOR movie and with the newest iteration falling into the hands of writer/director Shane Black there is a lot of hope that he can reinvigorate the franchise and give us more of the space alien mayhem we've been missing since the abyssmal AVP films and a not-too-shabby sequel (PREDATORS). Black, who appeared in the '87 original, returns to the series as the creative maestro and after a string of impressive flicks, from IRON MAN 3 to KISS KISS, BANG BANG to THE NICE GUYS, the pressure is on to give us something cool. Black has assembled a hell of a cast, including Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Thomas Jane, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Jake Busey and Sterling K. Brown, and based on the trailers and early footage, has brought a few tricks up his sleeve to keep us on our toes.

Early reviews out of TIFF and critics screenings haven't been so kind, with both of our critics being mixed on the overall product. From TIFF, Chris Bumbray said the Midnight Madness crowd ate it up, but his final thoughts, while positive, were still reserved. In his 7/10 review, he said, "There’s no doubt in my mind that THE PREDATOR will be divisive among fans, with some loving the thorough Shane Black-ness of it all, while others will whine about it coming off as more of a spoof of the franchise (and genre) rather than the reboot/continuation they may be hoping for." JimmyO was less enthusiastic about the film, saying in his 5/10 review, "…while I didn’t mind the overabundance of humor and the ultra violent streak of the kills, it’s far too clunky to fully recommend."
