Audiences were wowed by Sam Raimi's 2002 SPIDER-MAN, which helped catapult the beginning of the comic book movie era as we know it today, spawning two sequels before heading down reboot lane with THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN in 2012 and then the death bell of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, which caused the ol' webhead to look for a new creative direction once again. This time, however, the stars aligned and both Marvel and Sony found a middle ground to work Peter Parker back into the MCU proper and making a Spider-Man film that follows the lineage of that successful cinematic universe. Director Jon Watts (COP CAR) took on directing duties, while Tom Holland assumed the mantle of our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man with a great back-up cast that includes Michael Keaton as The Vulture, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Donald Glover, Bokeem Woodbine, Jacob Batalon and, of course, Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr.
SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING is currently sitting at a certified 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. Our own Eric Walkuski raved about the film, giving it a 9/10 and saying, "…even after one viewing it's pretty hard to walk away from HOMECOMING not thinking you've just seen the most ideal big-screen take on Spidey yet, and one of the best examples of the genre, period." Chris Bumbray gave the film an 8/10, saying it's "…a really well-crafted Marvel superhero movie."
