After a total of eight appearances as the character of Wolverine, Hugh Jackman is popping his claws one last time in his ninth and final outing in LOGAN. Directed by THE WOLVERINE's James Mangold and starring Jackman, Patrick Stewart (returning as Professor X), Boyd Holbrook (as Donald Pierce), Stephen Merchant (as Caliban), and Richard E. Grant (as Dr. Rice) and the force of nature that is Dafne Keen (as Laura Kinney/X-23), LOGAN closes the book on Jackman's run with the character and in turn becomes one of the deepest, violent, and emotional superhero films ever put to film.
The reviews thus far have predominantly fell in line with that sentiment with critics and fans alike heralding the film as a monumental achievement in the genre, as well as Jackman's career, which was essentially born out of his initial performance in 2000's X-MEN. Currently certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes (if that kind of stuff matters to you) and sitting at 93%, the film has set itself up for some serious expectations. Chris Bumbray felt that LOGAN was a success in his review, giving it a 8/10 and saying, "It's the superhero movie we’ve been waiting for, in that finally it’s something totally different." Eric Walkuski also felt very strongly about the film in his review, giving it a 9/10 and saying, "This is Hugh Jackman's most significant work; LOGAN is what he's been working toward all this time."
