They say not to judge a book by its teaser trailer, but it sort of lends me to do otherwise.
A teaser for Bret Easton Ellis’ THE CANYONS has arrived. Aside from wondering what method of acting Lindsay Lohan is using on this film, the trailer presents itself to be exactly what it is– a cheap, sleazy, corny mess. I enjoy Ellis’ work, but after seeing the trailer I wonder if this is the vibe he had hoped for– all signs point to yes. THE CANYONS trailer is reminiscent of an exploitation flick, but I’m curious as to what it would have been like with bigger actors lending it a little more credibility.
Maybe there is something in this trailer that I’m not seeing. There’s a chance that it will turn out to be some fantastic film destined for our “Awfully Good” column.
Now I’ve convinced myself I have to see it. Check out the teaser trailer below.
THE CANYONS is a contemporary L.A. noir from director Paul Schrader, writer Bret Easton Ellis, and producer Braxton Pope about the dangers of sexual obsession and ambition, both personally and professionally, among a group of young people in their 20’s and how one chance meeting connected to the past unravels all of their lives, resulting in deceit, paranoia, cruel mind games and ultimately violence.
