RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION was the first RESIDENT EVIL movie that didn’t out-gross its predecessor. That being said, a worldwide total of $221 million is still a pretty good chunk of change on a budget of $65 million. But some of us wondered if it’d be enough for Paul W.S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich to come back for one last go around.
Turns out it was because ShockTillYouDrop.com has learned from Sony that RESIDENT EVIL 6 (there isn’t a title yet but I’m guessing it’ll be something like RESIDENT EVIL: REVOLUTION or RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERBIRTH) will be released September 12th, 2014. Filming would likely start sometime this fall and it could be the final film in the franchise…before someone gets the bright idea of rebooting the whole thing of course.
While I liked the first movie, my level of enjoyment has decreased with each new entry in the series. I still haven’t seen RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION because honestly I feel like I’m not missing out on much. I’m sure I’ll watch it at some point but there isn’t a burning need to see it.
If this is the last RESIDENT EVIL movie with Paul W.S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich, lets hope they go out in a blaze of glory and deliver something truly epic for fans of the franchise that have stuck through from the start.
