What Comes Around: Grace Van Dien, Kyle Gallner thriller acquired by IFC Films

A whole lot of people recently saw Grace Van Dien play the role of ill-fated cheerleader Chrissy Cunningham in season 4 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things. Thanks to IFC Films, we’ll soon have the chance to see her play another beleaguered teen in the thriller What Comes Around (formerly known as Roost). Deadline reports that IFC Films has picked up the North American distribution rights to What Comes Around and are planning to give the film a VOD and limited theatrical release in February. That will be followed by an AMC+ streaming release in May.

Directed by Amy Redford (The Guitar) from a script by Scott Organ (based on his play), What Comes Around sees Van Dien taking on the role of

Anna, who befriends an online stranger. Her mom Beth struggles to defend their new life as past is made present. It’s a cat and mouse thriller with a twist you don’t see coming.

Van Dien is joined in the cast by Kyle Gallner (Dinner in America) as the online stranger and Summer Phoenix (SLC Punk!) as Beth.

IFC Films’ Arianna Bocco had this to say about the distribution deal: “Amy Redford validates the broad emotional tapestry of a young girl’s inner struggle, while also creating a suspenseful and twisty film about the abuse of power. We’re thrilled to welcome Amy into the IFC Films family, where defying expectation is a golden rule.

Redford added: “IFC Films has been an early and unflinching supporter of independent storytelling for years. It is with deep gratitude and joy to be counted among them. Arianna and the team are a dream to work with.

In case you’re wondering, yes, Amy Redford is the daughter of Robert Redford, Grace Van Dien is the daughter of Casper Van Dien, and Summer Phoenix is the sister of Joaquin Phoenix.
