Okay, that last bit isn’t technically true as the movie hasn’t been given a title yet. But I can safely say that a sequel to last year’s hit possession movie has been commissioned, with writer Leigh Whannell (SAW, DEAD SILENCE) set to return and director James Wan (SAW, DEAD SILENCE) “in negotiations.” And if you find yourself surprised by this news in the least? Don’t be. The movie was “released [last] April and scared up almost $100 million worldwide on a budget of only $1.5 million.” When you make bank like that you go back to the well, and I may have just mixed my metaphors but I still stand by the principle of what I meant to say. Sh*t’s inevitable.
“The sequel is scheduled to go into production this year for a 2013 release,” though nothing has yet been said as to who (if any) of the original cast will be returning, or if they do, in what form they will find themselves. Will it it be the same people, their story continued? New people, different “house?” It’s a bit hard to hypothesize where the movie might go without drifting into spoiler territory so I’ll just stop now. My bigger question is as to just where this will fall in James Wan’s schedule considering the other movie he’s got going, but I bet we’ll be finding out sooner rather than later.
