Wes Anderson’s recent stop-motion movie ISLE OF DOGS got the usual abundance of praise his films often do and is currently riding a wave to an Oscar nomination, but the director isn’t slowing down to bask in the glory. The director is already hard at work on a new movie, and he normally likes to keep everything close to the chest in terms of cast, synopsis and plot, but already details have come out about Anderson’s latest, no doubt quirky, flick. And, no, it’s not a musical.

IndieWire got the scoop that Anderson’s new film began shooting one week ago in the south of France (in Angoulême), and despite rumors it was going to be a musical, the movie – apparently titled THE FRENCH DISPATCH – is “a love letter to journalists set at an outpost of an American newspaper in 20th-century Paris and centers on three storylines.” The entirety of the cast was not announced, but Anderson mainstays Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton and Frances McDormand are on board, as well as Benicio Del Toro, Jeffrey Wright and Oscar-nominated heartthrob, Timothee Chalamet.
On top of the casting above, there are some unconfirmed reports out there that Brad Pitt, Natalie Portman and Lea Seydoux also have roles in the movie. Seydoux had a role in his last live-action movie – THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL – but, again, we will have to wait and see if these three are actually in the movie.

All in all, this sounds exactly like something Anderson would tackle, and already stars some of his usual suspects. Shooting in southwestern France leads me to believe it could have some gorgeous visuals on par with GRAND BUDAPEST, which is all the more reason to be excited about his newest outing. That is if the idea of seeing Bill Murray wasn’t already doing it for you.
