While Wes Anderson’s 2009 stop-motion film FANTASTIC MR. FOX was a change of style in a way for the director, it wasn’t such a sharp turn that it stood out among his work. I would go as far to say it’s one of his best and proved he could take on different directions while maintaining that Anderson touch we’ve come to know and love. He recently revealed that he’s toying with the idea of returning to the world of stop-motion, something we would all certainly welcome I bet.
Speaking at the Lisbon And Estoril Film Festival Anderson said he might return to stop-motion for his next project. He also says the story would be divided into episodes, a nod to Vittorio De Sica’s THE GOLD OF NAPLES, which tells six different vignettes and the only connection is that they all take place in Naples.
Known for keeping plot details close to his chest, Anderson didn’t provide more than that right now. In any case, this would be something I would hope to see from to fruition for the director. Stop-motion is one of my favorite techniques in film which doesn’t get enough attention; to see him take it on again with advances in the style would be great.
