One of my most anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe projects is perhaps the one I know the least about — Werewolf By Night. Starring Gael García Bernal and Laura Donnelly, Werewolf By Night will be Marvel’s first Halloween special and an incredibly fun teaser trailer was released at the D23 Expo.
If you’re a fan of black and white horror filled with pulpy goodness, then Werewolf By Night will be right up your alley. With influences from classic Universal Horror and Hammer Horror (it also brought back memories of The Beast Must Die), there’s a lot of great imagery in the teaser, including a split second glimpse at Man-Thing. But for me, Harriet Sansom Harris steals the damn show. I know the actress best thanks to her roles on The X-Files and Frasier, but she’s a force of nature in everything she appears in. I’m beyond thrilled she gets to do her thing in the MCU.
There have been several characters who have fallen under the Werewolf by Night banner over the years, including Jack Russell, a man whose family had been cursed with lycanthropy for centuries. The character was created by Gerry Conway, Mike Ploog, Roy Thomas, and Jean Thomas and first appeared in an issue of Marvel Spotlight back in 1972.
Famed composer Michael Giacchino made his feature directorial debut with Werewolf By Night, which will debut on Disney+ on October 7th. What did you think of the Werewolf By Night teaser? Will you be watching this “special presentation” in October? Share your thoughts on this one by leaving a comment below.
