Werewolf By Night: In Color trailer gives a glimpse of the colorized presentation

Last year, Marvel and Disney+ released the very cool creature feature Halloween special Werewolf by Night (you can read our 8/10 review HERE), which was presented in black & white as a throwback to the Universal Monsters classics. They don’t have a new Halloween special for us this year, but they will be celebrating the holiday by releasing a colorized presentation of Werewolf by Night – appropriately called Werewolf by Night: In Color. This version of the special is set to begin streaming on Disney+ on October 20th, and one week out from that premiere date a trailer has arrived online to give a preview of what Werewolf by Night looks like in color. According to the promo, color makes it all more terrifying and more gruesome.

Composer Michael Giacchino directed Werewolf by Night, working from a script by Heather Quinn and Peter Cameron. The special has the following synopsis: On a dark and somber night, a secret cabal of monster hunters emerge from the shadows and gather at the foreboding Bloodstone Temple following the death of their leader. In a strange and macabre memorial to the leader’s life, the attendees are thrust into a mysterious and deadly competition for a powerful relic—a hunt that will ultimately bring them face to face with a dangerous monster.

Giacchino previously directed the short film Monster Challenge and an episode of the animated series Star Trek: Short Treks. He worked with Marvel on Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far from Home, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Speaking with Empire, Giacchino described Werewolf by Night as a “love letter to monsters and the humanity behind them”.

The special stars Gael García Bernal as titular werewolf Jack Russell and Laura Donnelly as monster hunter’s daughter Elsa Bloodstone. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has said that Jack Russell “will ultimately become quite important to the future of the MCU.”
