The third installment in the juggernaut franchise that began with MEET THE PARENTS may have found its director. Paul Weitz is in talks to direct LITTLE FOCKERS, the highly anticipated follow-up to MEET THE FOCKERS. Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Teri Polo and Blythe Danner are all set to reprise their original roles in the film, which we can only assume will see Stiller and his movie-wife Polo have kids.
Jay Roach, who directed the first two films, will produce the third film alongside Jane Rosenthal, with production expected to begin in July. After the first two films grossed more than $820 million worldwide, Weitz has the weight of a cinematic sure thing resting squarely on his shoulders. Universal must be licking their chops at the financial possibilities presented by this film and if Weitz mucks it up, they’ll make sure that he never works in this town again. Luckily for him, the parks department in my neighbourhood is looking for a birdshit cleaner.
