Probably a sign that the film is just as amazing as its trailer, Tom Ford’s A SINGLE MAN scored a distribution deal mere hours after being screened at the Toronto Film Fest.
According to Variety, The Weinstein Company clawed at the U.S. and German distribution for the film after a night of duking it out with Summit and their former home of Miramax. Director Ford had apparently decided to withhold on selling the rights till after the Venice and Toronto screenings, both of which showered the film with acclaims. The strategy probably allowed for a few more zeros on the price tag. And why not? Good movies deserve some Hollywood dough too…
The film set in the 1960s concerns a British college professor trying to cope with the lost of his life partner. Star Colin Firth already won the top acting prize in Venice so Oscar speculations are already rumbling. And with the Weinsteins desperately fishing for the Golden guy these days, get ready for one hell of an Oscar-campaign over that film.
