It can't be stopped!

After sinking into second place last week, the adaptation of Stephen King's IT lurched back to the top with an estimated $17.3 million!

The R-rated horror movie has now collected nearly $300 million at the domestic box office after four weekends, putting IT behind only DEADPOOL, AMERICAN SNIPER and THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST for highest-grossing R-rated releases.

The tale of clown terror also now has a whopping worldwide total of $553 million, on a reported cost of $35 million.

IT just managed to sqeak ahead in what was essentially a three-way tie for first place this weekend (and tomorrow's actual figures may alter the standings).

The new Tom Cruise crime-drama AMERICAN MADE flew into second place with an opening of $17 million.

The fact-based thriller, which reunited Cruise with his EDGE OF TOMORROW director Doug Liman, had the lowest opening for the star since JACK REACHER's $15 million debut weekend in 2012.

With an additional $64 million from overseas (where it opened a couple of weeks ago), the R-rated release has a worldwide total of $81 million on a reported cost of $50 million.

Critics mostly seemed to enjoy Cruise's cartel smuggling, giving the risky business an average of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. You can check out the JoBlo review HERE.

After shooting into first place last week, KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE dropped to third place with $17 million, losing 56% from its opening for a ten-day domestic total of $66.7 million.

Director Matthew Vaughn's R-rated espionage sequel, which cost a reported $104 million, now has a worldwide total of $192.9 million.

Everything isn't awesome for THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE, which is in fourth place with $12 million.

The latest animated brick-toy movie dipped by 41% from its mild opening last week for a ten-day domestic total of $35.5 million. The martial arts fantasy has a worldwide total of $58.2 million on a reported $70 million cost.

The new update of FLATLINERS was cold on the slab in fifth place with an opening of $6.7 million.

The PG-13 remake of Joel Schumacher's 1990 thriller, which resuscitates Kiefer Sutherland from that original cast to join Ellen Page and Diego Luna, cost a reported $19 million.

The near-death experience, from original THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO director Niels Arden Oplev, was delivered directly to the morgue by critics with a rare 0% average on Rotten Tomates (the JoBlo review is HERE).

The tennis comedy-drama BATTLE OF THE SEXES served in sixth place with $3.4 million.

The Emma Stone/Steve Carell biopic of Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs expanded to 1200 locations from last week's limited release for a new $4 million domestic total.

Critics were generally charmed by the rivalry, giving it an 85% average on Rotten Tomatoes. The JoBlo review can be found HERE.

R-rated action-thriller AMERICAN ASSASSIN was in seventh with $3.3 million, followed by the Reese Witherspoon romcom HOME AGAIN in eighth with $1.7 million.

Quietly opening in ninth place was the psychological thriller TIL DEATH DO US PART with $1.5 million. The low-budget PG-13 movie with Taye Diggs and Annie Ilonzeh (ALL EYEZ ON ME) was released on 562 screens.

Darren Aronofsky's divisive thriller MOTHER! held onto the bottom of the list with $1.4 million for a domestic total of $16.3 million after three weekends.

Outside the chart, the Jake Gyllenhaal drama STRONGER already rolled out of sight while the social media horror movie FRIEND REQUEST was unplugged, both after a single week in the Top 10. WIND RIVER also slipped away, and THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD ran out of ammo but has $170 million worldwide (on a $30 million cost).

Next weekend has Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford dealing with replicants in the sequel BLADE RUNNER 2049, Idris Elba and Kate Winslet try to survive in THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US, and Rainbow Dash comes to the big screen in MY LITTLE PONY: THE MOVIE.
