Weekend Box Office Report: Frozen II still brings the heat!

A hot holiday weekend for Disney's sequel!

The Snow Queen remained on the box office throne this weekend as Disney's FROZEN II was in first place once again with an estimated $85.2 million!

The fantasy sequel accumulated $123.7 million over the five-day Thanksgiving holiday period to break the record previously held by THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE, which pulled in $109 million during that span in 2013.

The PG-rated musical with Elsa (Idina Menzel), Anna (Kristen Bell), Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and Olaf (Josh Gad) on their visit to the Enchanted Forest dipped by 35% from its opening last weekend, and has a ten-day domestic total of $287.5 million.

With another $451 from international audiences, the fairy tale follow-up has already amassed a worldwide total of $738.5 million, and seems likely to catch up to the $1.27 billion global total of the original FROZEN in 2013.

Opening in second place was the new comedy-thriller KNIVES OUT with $27 million for the three-day weekend.

The PG-13 murder mystery from writer-director Rian Johnson (LOOPER, STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI) has a domestic total of $41.7 million since it opened on Wednesday.

The ensemble whodunit featuring Chris Evans, Daniel Craig, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Ana de Armas, Toni Collette, Don Johnson, Lakeith Stanfield and Christopher Plummer (among others) has a worldwide total of $70 million. The "family gathering gone deadly" came with a reported cost of $40 million.

Critics certainly seemed to enjoy the all-star homicidal shenanigans, giving the movie a 96% average on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metacritic score of 82. Take a stab at the JoBlo review HERE.

Steering into third place was the PG-13 Christian Bale/Matt Damon drama FORD V FERRARI with $13.2 million over its third weekend in theaters.

Director James Mangold's $98 million glimpse into Ford's preparation for the 1966 Le Mans race has driven to a domestic total of $81 million and a worldwide total of $143 million.

The PG-rated Mister Rogers drama A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD was in fourth place with $11.7 million, down just 11% from last weekend's opening.

Directed by Marielle Heller (CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME?), the $25 million look into the life of children's show host Fred Rogers (portrayed by Tom Hanks) has a ten-day domestic total of $34.3 million.

In fifth place was the new R-rated drama QUEEN & SLIM with an opening of $11.6 million for the three-day weekend, and $15.7 million since it started on Wednesday.

Written by Lena Waithe ("Master of None") and directed by Melina Matsoukas ("Insecure"), the romance-on-the-run with Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith cost a reported $17 million.

Critics were mostly intrigued by the first date gone awry, giving the movie an average of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 74 on Metacritic. Hit the road with the JoBlo review HERE.

The R-rated Chadwick Boseman police thriller 21 BRIDGES was in sixth place with $5.8 million, a drop of 37% from its opening last weekend. The $33 million crime-drama (produced by AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and ENDGAME directors Anthony and Joe Russo) has a ten-day domestic total of $19.4 million and $22.1 million worldwide.

The PG-rated family comedy PLAYING WITH FIRE was in seventh with $4.2 million, bringing the $30 million John Cena firefighter movie to a domestic total of $39.2 million and $44.4 million worldwide on its fourth weekend.

In eighth place was the PG-13 war drama MIDWAY with $3.9 million. After four weekends, the $100 million naval battle depiction from INDEPENDENCE DAY director Roland Emmerich has a domestic total of $50.2 million and a worldwide total of $106 million.

Stepping up a spot was the R-rated Gotham villain story JOKER with $2 million. With a domestic total of $330.6 million, the Clown Prince of Crime's origin has overtaken the $330.3 domestic finish of fellow gritty DC Comics movie BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. 

After nine weekends in theaters, director Todd Phillips' comic adaptation with Joaquin Phoenix is up to a worldwide total of $1.04 billion, on a cost somewhere between $55-$70 million.

Closing out the list was the PG-13 holiday comedy LAST CHRISTMAS with $1.9 million. Director Paul Feig's $25 million romance with Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding has a domestic total of $31.6 million and $67.8 million worldwide on its fourth weekend.

Outside the chart, the R-rated Ian McKellen/Helen Mirren thriller THE GOOD LIAR disappeared along with the TV adaptation CHARLIE'S ANGELS.

Next weekend basically lets the current crowd continue fighting as balloon pilots Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne float into limited release with THE AERONAUTS and more toys come to life in PLAYMOBIL: THE MOVIE.
