Wedding Crashers helmer David Dobkin to direct Will Ferrell Netflix comedy

In June of last year, it was announced that STRANGER THAN FICTION and BLADES OF GLORY star Will Ferrell would star in EUROVISION, a comedy film based on the uber-popular and long running international TV music competition The Eurovision Song Contest. The Eurovision phenomenon began in Switzerland in 1956, when seven West European nations cut a rug for the cameras. In 2018, 43 countries competed for the top prize. After a series of stunning performances, Netta of Lisbon stole the show thanks to her rendition of the song Toy. In the past, pop sensations the likes of ABBA (1974 victors for Sweden) and Céline Dion (1988 winner on behalf of Switzerland) were proclaimed the winners of the contest. As you're likely to know, both artists have gone on to become pillars of the music community, after their wins at The Eurovision Song Contest.

Today, Variety has confirmed that WEDDING CRASHERS helmer David Dobkin has boarded the Netflix comedy as its director, with Ferrell co-writing the script alongside Andrew Steele. Ferrell will also produce via his Gary Sanchez Productions as part of a partnership with Jessica Elbaum and Chris Henchy. Adam McKay will serve as the project's exec produce.

As it happens, Dobkin and Ferrell go way back, to the days when the SNL alum had a cameo in WEDDING CRASHES as Chazz Reinhold. Dobkin also has a standing relationship with Netflix, after directing episodes of both Marvel's IRON FIST and the crine-comedy FRIENDS FROM COLLEGE.
