Wedding Crashers was a huge hit upon its release back in 2005, and since then, fans have been wondering when John Beckwith (Owen Wilson) and Jeremy Grey (Vince Vaughn) would be back for more shenanigans. The most recent rumour regarding their return stated that production on Wedding Crashers 2 would begin this August, but Owen Wilson seemed to squash that rumour while speaking with Collider recently.
Someone said August, and I don’t see that happening. I think before anything, it’s making sure that everybody felt we had a great story.
However, Owen Wilson confirmed that a script does exist, so while the sequel might not start shooting this summer, it's not out of the realm of possibility. "Yeah, there is a script and David Dobkin – who directed the first one – has been working on it, and we’ve been talking about it," Wilson said. "It’s been nice talking to Vince, and it’s one of those movies that really seemed to connect with people. If we can come up with something we think could be great, then I’m sure we’ll do it." In regards to the sequel, David Dobkin had previously said that he would be "curious what it'd be like for guys in their late 40s who end up being single again and have to go back out in the world. What a weird, difficult, challenging story that is.' And as long as there's a real story in the middle of it, to me, it can be a movie." Are you down for a Wedding Crashers sequel?
In the original Wedding Crashers film, Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn's characters were a pair of divorce mediators who used the wedding season as an excuse to crash the celebrations and sleep with a lot of women. While attending a wedding for the daughter of the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury (Christopher Walken), John and Jeremy met the Secretary's two other daughters, Claire (Rachel McAdams) and Gloria (Isla Fisher), the latter of whom was an emotionally unstable nymphomaniac who grew obsessed with Jeremy. Owen Wilson will next be seen in Loki as Mobius M. Mobius, an agent of the Time Variance Authority. The Marvel series will debut on Disney+ on June 9th.
