There is something about sitting back for ninety minutes and just having a good laugh. And that is exactly what I had when I witnessed THE HOUSE. From my set visit, I knew it would be a pretty hard R-rated comedy, and happily I enjoyed the experience. Much of the fun was watching Amy Poehler and Will Ferrell work together. While you’d think that they appeared together often on Saturday Night Live, they only had a couple of skits together. Thankfully, in their latest feature, the two have a whole lot of fun as parents starting an illegal casino to help pay for their daughters graduation.
The junket for THE HOUSE was a bit unusual. When I sat down to chat with Amy and Will, we quickly got on the subject of POLTERGEIST. Yes, the original horror film which Will had not watched. That brought up other great pairings, including Lenny and Squiggy from the hit Seventies/early Eighties series Laverne & Shirley. I can honestly say it was one of the most fun interviews I’ve had. It’s actually kind of amazing how down to earth Ms. Poehler and Mr. Ferrell are. I hope they make a ton more movies together.
Next up I spoke with the amazingly funny Nick Kroll and Jason Mantzoukas. And funnily enough, the whole POLTERGEIST conversation continued here – and I think we are all better for it. The two also talked about a few fun subjects that mostly weren’t about the film. This was an incredibly fun junket on every level. Hell, they even had several games – including slot machines – set up for the visiting journalists to play. And yes, I had a great time with the movie as well. If you just want to have a good laugh and are tired of the massive summer blockbusters, you might want to stop by THE HOUSE.
