This week, PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING is crashing into theatres, and it is very likely to please fans of the original. With directing duties going to Steven S. DeKnight – who is making his feature film directorial debut – this is a fun continuation to Guillermo del Toro’s original. In fact, aside from Charlie Day and Burn Gorman, this is a brand new feature with an exciting new cast including John Boyega, Scott Eastwood and newcomer Cailee Spaeny. And with more robots, monsters and a ton of cool characters, this is the type of sequel that will really open up the world to younger viewers. Thankfully, the new film handles the history of the first in a cool way and still builds to a whole new universe that could launch into further exciting adventures.
John Boyega is having the time of his life thanks to his incredible success. This talented actor has connected with audiences as Finn in STAR WARS, and here he takes on yet another unlikely hero. He discussed these heroic roles and what brought him to PACIFIC RIM. In addition to starring in the movie, he is also one of the film's producers. It's wonderful to see a guy like John find this kind of success, because you don't get much cooler than Mr. Boyega.
Scott Eastwood is an actor who has been involved in a couple of big franchise features, including SUICIDE SQUAD and THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS. And now he can add PACIFIC RIM to the list. The actor talked about his latest, and the impressive working relationship with co-star Boyega. And when it comes to chemistry, Boyega and newcomer Cailee Spaeny have a fantastic on-screen connection as well. The young actress opened up about the film, and her unusual casting experience. Let’s just say that it is refreshing to hear about a newcomer taking the lead in a huge feature film.
And finally we spent some time with the delightful Charlie Day and Burn Gorman, as well as director Steven DeKnight. Charlie and Burn were fantastic, and they happily talked about the filmmakers offering the two something worth returning for. The two characters have a fresh and fun new direction in UPRISING. And speaking of Uprising, DeKnight opened up about how he was able to work off of del Toro’s original tale, and make it his very own. If you dug PACIFIC RIM, you are definitely going to want to check out this UPRISING. opening this Friday (with Thursday previews).
